Strong Communities

We have faith in optimism. And in laughter as medicine as well as penicillin.

A healthy community requires many things— committed and caring people, human and financial resources, continuing education and outreach, access to quality preventive care... As a committed member of the communities we serve, Kaiser Permanente provides these components, along with many health-oriented opportunities, through our Community Benefit programs. Through detailed assessment, we identify specific areas of need where we can help significantly improve and sustain the health of our local communities and fund grants to achieve these goals. Kaiser Permanente proudly directs more than $1 billion each year to support Community Benefit programs and services through research, community partnerships, and direct health coverage for low-income individuals and families. Tolerance

We believe there is art to medicine as well as science. We believe in physical therapy, psychotherapy, even music as therapy.

Our longstanding commitment to diversity includes both the development of a diverse workforce and the delivery of culturally competent care to our members - health care that acknowledges cultural diversity in the clinical setting, respects members' beliefs and practices, and ensures that cultural needs are considered and respected at every point of contact. We embrace diversity -- our diversity is our strength.

Our clinicians get schooled in LGBT health issues, breaking down the unique health care needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, so LGBT members can expect competent care, and zero judgment.

Our members speak more than 80 different languages and each language represents a race, ethnicity, or culture with unique beliefs, values, traditions, and behaviors. Our goal is to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate care across the spectrum of our diverse membership. We provide free interpreter services for any patient needing translations while at the hospital. Read More
